C. Y. Tung Maritime Museum was jointly founded by The Tung Foundation (HK) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It’s located in New Zhong Yuan on Xuhui Campus and was officially opened on January 18, 2003.
Originally established in 1910, the museum was formerly used as the student dormitory. The museum covers an area of more than 600 square meters with two exhibition halls, which include the Ancient Chinese Shipping History and the Life of C. Y. Tung, and the designers are Professor Xin Yuanou, an expert in shipping history, and Ms. Dong Jianping, the eldest daughter of Mr. Tung Chao-yung. On the first floor there is the ancient Chinese Shipping Exhibition Hall, which displays a large number of pictures, documentary materials, physical models and maritime trade items to reflect the boats and shipping history since the Neolithic period in ancient China. The second floor is the Life of C. Y. Tung Exhibition Hall, which concentrates the legendary life of Tung Chao-yung, one of the "Seven Great Ship Kings of the World", with vivid photos, documentations, objects and realistic scenes.
