SJTU is back in session!
Morning light illuminates the shores of Siyuan Lake,
Vitality fills the 130-year-old campus.
Today (March 2), SJTU welcomes the first day of the new semester.
Students wave goodbye to the winter break,
Returning with renewed energy to officially begin a new academic term.
Let’s take a closer look at SJTU’s first day back.
With bags full of hopes and plans, students returned from all corners of the world in the days leading up to the semester. They completed registration in an orderly manner, tidied their dormitories, reunited with friends, and mapped out new goals. On this familiar campus, a new chapter quietly unfolds.

The First Class of the Semester
SJTU students, in position!
Back in the classroom, eyes focused and minds engaged, students immersed themselves fully. Ideas spark through discussion and debate, launching a new semester of exploration and discovery.

The ShangYuan building, originally constructed in 1987 and one of the earliest academic buildings on the Minhang campus, has reemerged after renovation.
Its weathered red-brick façade preserves memories of four decades past, while state-of-the-art features—including smart classrooms, interactive teaching systems, and seamless sound amplification—infuse the space with the pulse of future education the moment the doors open.

From the first day of return, the library gradually filled with dedicated learners. In self-study areas, students are already reviewing new material, consulting academic literature, and working on research papers—steadily regaining their rhythm and transitioning into the new semester.

Cafeterias and canteens are bustling once more. Long lines at each food counter reflect how much everyone missed the flavors of SJTU. Amid the comforting aroma of meals, students rediscover the familiar tastes that define campus life.

Even before the official start of the semester, the campus had already seen students breaking a sweat. Runners kept their pace along the tracks, and spirited matches unfolded on the courts. With determination and vitality, students welcome the new semester in high spirits.

SJTU-affiliated schools also resumed classes as scheduled. Children returned full of energy, as the spirit of the university’s 130th anniversary decorates the campus. Every corner reflects the depth and heritage of SJTU’s long history.

As spring returns to Siyuan Lake and a new journey begins, let us reflect on a winter break marked by dedication and warmth.
They Practiced and Served
During the winter break, under the theme “Travel Ten Thousand Miles, Understand China,” SJTU organized 596 social practice teams involving more than 5,000 faculty members and students. They traveled across the country, engaging in social practice activities and gaining experience within the broader landscape of Chinese modernization—tempering their character and strengthening their sense of responsibility.

They Pursued Research
The path of scientific research does not pause for winter break. Laboratories and research facilities remained brightly lit, as students discussed academic questions and tackled research challenges together.

They Embraced Tradition
Some returned home for family reunions, savoring local New Year customs. Others stayed on campus to celebrate together. Writing “Fu” characters, pasting Spring Festival couplets, sharing festive meals, and enjoying heartfelt conversations—within these traditions, warmth and meaning were cherished.

They Safeguarded the Campus
The spirit of campus life never faded. Logistics staff and security personnel remained at their posts, maintaining safety, caring for the grounds, preparing daily meals, and ensuring smooth operations. Their quiet dedication preserved the campus’s peace and warmth.

They Served in White Coats
During the Spring Festival holiday, while families gathered in reunion, medical professionals continued their work.
Medical staff from SJTU School of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals remained on the clinical frontlines, protecting lives with responsibility and safeguarding public health with dedication.
Affiliated institutions include:

Amid countless family reunions, your steadfast commitment made those reunions even more complete.
Because of you, SJTU will always be a warm home.
Salute to every guardian who stood their post.
Thank you.
With spring as our prelude and ambition as our sail,
Let us forge ahead on this new journey.
May every member of the SJTU community
Grow vigorously in this hopeful season
And set sail toward new horizons.
