Three professors from the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) were honored as Highly Cited Researchers in the fields of Industry & Business Administration and Applied Economics: Feng Li, Jun Pan, and Ning Zhu. Notably, Professors Jun Pan and Ning Zhu have been consecutively featured on the list for the third year, while Professor Feng Li has been recognized for the second consecutive year.
The 2023 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers List covered 10 subjects from 84 China SCADC categories and included a total of 5,801 scholars from 496 universities, enterprises, and research institutions. SJTU had a significant presence on the list, with 179 scholars recognized.
Professor Feng Li
Dr. Feng Li is a Professor of Accounting and the Deputy Dean at SAIF. He also serves as the Executive Director of China Academy of Financial Research (CAFR), and the Co-Director of Shanghai Advanced Institute for Financial Research (SAIFR). Prior to joining SAIF, Professor Li was the Harry Jones Associate Professor of Accounting with tenure at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. Professor Li's research interests primarily focus on financial statement analysis, big data and text mining, asset pricing, and risk management. He has published over 20 articles in leading academic journals, such as the Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Accounting Review, Management Science, and Journal of Financial Economics.
At SAIF, Professor Li teaches courses such as "Principles of Accounting”, “Financial Reporting and Analysis", "Essentials of Accounting for Decision Makers", and "Financial Innovation". He has been recognized for his teaching excellence, receiving the SAIF Teaching Award in 2018 and 2022.
Professor Jun Pan
Dr. Jun Pan is a Professor of Finance and SAIF Chair Professor at SAIF. Before joining SAIF in 2019, Professor Pan held prestigious positions at renowned institutions, including the School of Management Distinguished Professor of Finance and Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management. She was also a fellow at the National Institute of Economic Research in the United States. Professor Pan's research fields encompass asset pricing, financial derivatives markets, credit risk models, financial crises, market liquidity, market microstructure, risk management, fixed-income markets, and China's financial market. She has published more than 20 high-level academic papers in prestigious international academic journals, including Econometrica, Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Financial Economics. Professor Pan serves as an editor at the Review of Finance and an associate editor at the Journal of Finance. In recognition of her outstanding research contributions, she received the SAIF Faculty Academic Research Award in 2022.
Professor Pan has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career, including the Luise Meyer-Schutzmeister Award for American Women in Science (1995), the Jaedicke Fellowship at Stanford Graduate School of Business (1996-1997), the Lieberman Fellowship at Stanford University (1998-1999), the Western Illinois University Alumni Achievement Award (2001), the First Prize in The Chicago Quantitative Alliance Annual Academic Competition (2003), and The Stephen A. Ross Prize in Financial Economics (2015).
Professor Ning Zhu
Dr. Ning Zhu is a Professor of Finance at SAIF. Previously, he held the position of Chair Professor at Tsinghua University and was a tenured Professor of Finance at the University of California. He also served as a Visiting Professor at Waseda University. From 2008 to 2010, Dr. Zhu worked as a Senior Executive at Lehman Brothers and Nomura Securities, leading teams that achieved top rankings in several institutional investor awards. Professor Zhu's research interests encompass behavioral finance, Chinese macroeconomics and financial markets, short selling, bankruptcy and restructuring, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions. He has published over 50 articles in prestigious international journals, including the Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Finance, Management Science, and Journal of Legal Studies. Dr. Zhu is the author of the best-selling books The Guaranteed Bubble, The Investors' Enemy, and The Investors' Friend, which have been translated into multiple languages and gained widespread recognition. He was awarded the Sun Yefang Financial Innovation Book Award in 2018.
Professor Zhu is a globally recognized expert on China's economy and financial system. He is a Faculty Fellow at Yale University, General Secretariat at the International Finance Forum, and Co-Secretary General of the International Financial Forum. Dr. Zhu has been invited as a guest speaker to the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Boao Forum for Asia, and other prominent events. He has also been interviewed by numerous domestic and international TV media outlets. Furthermore, Dr. Zhu has provided extensive consulting services to international organizations, governments, regulatory agencies, and major corporations worldwide.
