On the afternoon of September 12nd, the award ceremony of 2019 Shanghai Magnolia Silver Award was held at Shanghai Oriental Art Center. The award was presented to Norman R. Scott, SJTU Honorary Professor and Fellow of American Academy of Engineering. Zhang Xiaosong, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and eight leaders of Shanghai commissions presented medals and certificates to foreigners.
The "Magnolia Silver Award" is an external award initiated by Shanghai Municipal People's Government in 1989, and is awarded once a year to encourage foreigners contributing to Shanghai's economic progress, social development and foreign exchange. The Award has been presented to 23 foreign experts of SJTU these years.
Professor Scott is Emeritus Professor of Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. From 1989 to 1998, he served as Vice President of Cornell University. In 2014, he was appointed Honorary Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
During his return to Shanghai, Professor Scott also delivered a lecture about the "2+2 project" to Cornell University at SJTU School of Agriculture and Biology.
