On June 12, the opening ceremony of SJTU-University of Michigan(UM) Joint Research Forum was grandly held in Wenxuan Medical Building. SJTU President Zhang Jie, UM Vice President Stephen R.Forrest, SJTU Vice President Lin Zhongqin, President assistant Xu Xuemin, Standing Vice Dean of Office of Research Management Liu Yangang and Vice Dean Feng Yan, Standing Vice Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering Xi Lifeng and Vice Dean of School of Pharmacy Xu Yuhong attended the ceremony. Nearly forty persons, including people from UM, research project leaders of the joint research for the past three years in SJTU and leading researchers participated in the ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Feng Yan.  

In his speech, President Zhang Jie looked back the close ties between more than100-year-old SJTU and the United States, with the mutual complementarity as the foundation of sincere cooperation between two universities.

Prof. Stephen R.Forrest said that the cooperation between two universities began with friendly exchange, with the friendship becoming closer.

At the ceremony, Xi Lifeng and Xu Yuhong announced the 2013 Joint Research Funding Project.

SJTU-UM joint forum has been successfully held for six times so far.
