On June 2, the Symposium on Public Health Talents Cultivation and Discipline Construction was grandly held by Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Chen Zhu, Minister of Health, attended the symposium and gave a talk.
Weng Tiehui, Deputy Secretary-General of Shanghai Municipal Government, Xu Jianguang, Director General of the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, Yuan Wen, Vice Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Wu Fan, Director of Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Shanghai CDC), Zhang Jie, President of SJTU, Sun Dalin, SJTU Vice President and General-Secretary of CPC Committee of SJTU School of Medicine, Chen Guoqiang, SJTU Vice President and Dean of School of Medicine, directors of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) and of all the local centers, and heads as well as experts from over 20 renowned universities' School of Public Health were present. Chen Guoqiang moderated the symposium.
Chen Zhu said in his speech that at present China's economy and social development are in the important transformation period and the next decade is a critical period for China to promote medical system innovation and build a well-off society, and with the deepening of healthcare reform, the importance and urgency of public health talent group construction is looming day by day. He stressed the need to implement the guiding principle of "combining prevention and cure, with prevention in the first place", to solve the phenomenon of "disconnection between cure and prevention" and to have better public health talents cultivation and discipline construction. Chen Zhu expressed that the cooperation this time will for sure make significant contributions to Shanghai's public health talents cultivation and development, to people's health and to social harmony, fair and justice.
Zhang Jie said in his speech that the cooperation this time marks a brand new stage of development for SJTU public health and preventive medicine talent cultivation and discipline construction. He expected that the School of Public Health will cooperate with Shanghai CDC to innovate system and mechanism, to actively introduce oversees high-level talents, to strengthen disciplinary crossing and integration, to stick to the internationalized way of school running and to cultivate public health talents with multi-cultural background and with a global vision.
Chen Guoqiang and Wu Fan signed the Cooperation Agreement to jointly build SJTU School of Public Health. Based on the principles of complementarities, sharing resources, close cooperation and common development, the two sides will have an in-depth cooperation in four aspects: co-constructing SJTU School of Public Health, optimizing discipline distribution and promoting discipline development, carrying out public health teaching and practice, improving exchange among and cultivation of high-level talents and standardizing the training of Public Health doctors.
At the academic conference afterwards, Li Liming, General-Secretary of CPC Committee of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Wu Fan, Director of Shanghai CDC briefed the current situation, challenges and development idea of Public Health education in China and Shanghai respectively.
In the afternoon, Wang Yu, Director of China CDC, Zheng Zhijie, Dean of SJTU School of Public Health, Dr. Robert Fontaine, Resident Advisor at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Anna Maria SIEGA-RIZ, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, UNC Gillings School of Public Health, and Glenn Salkeld, Head of School of Public Health, the University of Sydney exchanged their domestic and international experience in the area of public health talents cultivation and discipline construction.
