A Boost for Biotech Cooperation between SJTU and University of Szeged

Mr. Istvan Ujhelyi, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary and Prof. Gábor SZABÓ, President-Rector of University of Szeged led a delegation to visit SJTU, October 12. President Zhang Jie received the guests and showed them around to view the sand table of Minhang Campus.

Zhang Jie pointed out that SJTU highly values and vigorously supports the scientific research on translational medicine and bio-engineering. Relying on the advantages of 12 affiliated hospitals, SJTU gives priority to the from-the-lab-to-the-clinic and from-the-clinic-to-the-lab scientific model, and builds a long-term mechanism to bridge the basic biomedical research and the clinical treatment. Zhang Jie said, the meeting would be a good opportunity for SJTU-University of Szeged cooperation in bio-technology research and student exchange, and thus extend the international cooperation of SJTU with other European universities and colleges.

Prof. Gábor SZABÓ expressed thanks for President Zhang's reception and briefed him on the University of Szeged. Among the top universities in Hungary, University of Szeged has strong research strength in laser physics, chemistry, medicine, pharmacy and other natural sciences. Gábor SZABÓ feels confident in the future cooperation between two universities.

The delegation member László VÍGH from Biological Research Center (BRC) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences expressed the willingness to cooperate with SJTU. The BRC is an outstanding institute of the internationally acknowledged Hungarian biological research. It has four institutes - the Institutes of Biophysics, Biochemistry, Genetics and Plant Biology.
