January 1,2022 - May 12,2022

As one of the most prestigious and oldest Chinese universities, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is leveraging its interdisciplinary research capabilities in ecology and the low-carbon development to explore new ways of building a smart, international and carbon neutral campus.

With a total planning area of nearly 0.67 square metres, the exemplary carbon-neutral campus is expected to host 6,000 full-time students. The 0.23-sq.km first -phase construction attracts an estimated investment of 1.8 billion yuan, serving 2,000 full-time students.

The solutions of the winners will serve as a prime example of how a university can achieve carbon neutrality and how our cities increase net-zero buildings and go low-carbon.

The competition is both public and invitational. Since its launch in January, a total of 22 teams, including 52 renowned design institutions (consortium), have joined the competition. After the preliminary review, 7 teams entered the final round and all provided excellent design plans.

In May, 2022, after two rounds of review by the committee, the final result of the competition was confirmed. Here is the announcement of the results.
