Chen Jingying

A girl with All-round Development

I have spent almost seven years in SJTU. Although it is hard to identify how much this university has afforded me, it is certain that what I did here makes what I am today.
My plan to be an ordinary student in SJTU was destroyed in my sophomore year when I was told, ‘as an SJTUer, no one can be ordinary.’ From then on, I have tried my best to be anything but ordinary.
As an undergraduate student in English major, I was grateful for having the opportunity to learn Calculus, Physics, Accounting and VB programming, etc. These seemingly major-unrelated courses actually helped me form a logical and comprehensive way of thinking.
As a postgraduate student in Foreign Linguistics, I gained the opportunity to study in Britain. In ten years I might forget the views I saw, the lectures I attended and even the essays I wrote there, but I will never forget my peers’ motivation in studying Linguistics: interest and passion.
‘The subject of life is making choices.’ Furthermore, ‘being extraordinary is for having more opportunities to make choice.’ I believe so.

The very first and deepest impression of Chen Jingying is her big sunny smile, which expresses her friendliness as well as her confidence. Then one may be curious about what makes so. The answer, in my opinion, is mainly because of her all-round development.

She is a girl good at studying, majoring in English and minoring in Finance. Though her study burden is comparatively heavier, she still has achieved great success in her academic performance. She gained national schorlarship twice and gained direct access to the graduate school. She got excellence in TEM8, got 7.5 in IELTS, passed French CFT-4 and gained Certificate of Computer Rank (Second) Examination for College Students.

Apart from her great academic performance, she participated actively in extracurricular activities. She once was vice instructor in military training, intern in ICS Channel of Shanghai Television Studio (Expo 360 Program), assistant in Educational Administration Office of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, class teacher of F1114101 in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, lecturer in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Also, she did a lot of volunteer jobs. For example, she delivered lectures at SJTU Affiliated Primary School as a volunteer teacher, provided translation service in Shanghai International Music Festival, provided viewers’ service in Shanghai Museum, and worked as a volunteer guide in Soong Ching Ling Memorial Residence in Shanghai.

In addition, she is a versatile girl. She loves music and sports. She can play the piano very well and enjoys playing volleyball very much.
