The University of Michigan Symphony Band Concert at SJTU

At 19 o'clock on May 13, the University of Michigan Symphony Band concert was performed in Jingjing Auditorium. The performance lasted about three hours, with Jingjing Auditorium packed with enthusiastic audience. Before the performance, Chairperson of SJTU Council Ma Dexiu and UM Senior Vice Provost Lester Monts delivered speeches.

On behalf of SJTU, Secretary Ma extended her warm welcome to the visit of the UM Symphony Band. She said that SJTU and UM had profound friendship and in-depth cooperation had been carried out in terms of cultivating talents and scientific research. She hoped that this performance could open up deeper cultural communication with UM.

UM Senior Vice Provost Lester Monts expressed his appreciation to SJTU for providing the opportunity to perform on behalf of UM President and the faculty. He said this visit promoted their understanding of Shanghai and SJTU and he hoped that the performance would give a full display of students' musical talents and enhance the UM-SJTU cooperation.

At this memorable night of music, the audience were placed in the palace of art, listening to the beautiful music performed by the band with international fame and caught a glimpse of conductor Michael Haithcock and violin soloist Xiang Gao. The performance brought one climax after another and was received with warm applause from the audience.
