On June 6th 2021, the Dean Summit Forum and Closing Awards Ceremony of FourC Challenge 24 Hour Design Charrette Contest “ReVive” was successfully held at Shanghai World Expo Exhibition, marking the finale of 2021 FourC Challenge 24 Hour Design Charrette Contest.

From May 29th to 30th, FourC Challenge 24 Hour Design Charrette Contest was launched on online platform by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and around 300 students from 70 universities around the world responded to the challenge. The contest themed under “Flow” was aimed to provide solutions for revival of the world in the post-epidemic context and to improve people’s way of life and interaction with the world with their innovative design. After two rounds of professional review by experts from more than 20 international design colleges, 12 projects stood out from 50 entries and were awarded grand prize, first prize, second prize, excellence prize and popularity prize, respectively.

At the “ReVive” Dean’s Forum, deans from 6 higher education institutions gathered to discuss the situation of design education and the challenges and changes design education faces under a bigger picture of post-epidemic era, and groped a new way for the development of design education.

The forum was followed by the awarding ceremony. The grand prize went to Team12 – Fluxion, consisting of Liu Xinyu from China Academy of Art, Chen Hailin from The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Jiang Xinyi from Beijing Forestry University, and Liu Han from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The team designed a set of open scenarios for movie watching in the post-epidemic era, based on which they developed a social APP named “Fluxion”.

FourC Challenge has been held for two consecutive years. It not only provides a platform of closer exchange and deeper understanding for students from SJTU and the rest of the world, but also wishes to arouse a globally resilient revival through the power of design. Going forward, FourC Challenge endeavors to engage more design colleges into promoting and exercising the concept of “Create, Connect, Communicate, and Collaborate”.
