【People】Prof. Zheng Hang, First-Prize Winner of SJTU Teaching Excellence Awards

June 01, 2021      Author:

Professor Zheng Hang, a distinguished professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, won the first-prize of "Teaching Excellence Awards" of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2020. He used to be the director of the SJTU physics department and has long worked in the study of condensed matter physics and quantum physics. Since he started working in SJTU in 1985, he has persisted in teaching basic courses for undergraduates and won many awards.

Professor Zheng Hang has taught students for thirty-five years, and he is still teaching in his sixties. He carefully designed a series of courses and guided students to embrace the world of physics. Meanwhile, he also attaches great importance to introducing high-quality resources for students' development. He invited distinguished experts and internationally renowned physics professors for lectures, which stimulated students' interest in research.

Physics, as a basic subject, widely intersects with many other disciplines. Zheng Hang advocates that the seeds of interdisciplinary study should be planted from the initial stage of students' academic career. This suits not only the need of developing innovative and top-notch talents in physics, but also the need for interdisciplinary talents in contemporary scientific development.

Since he was appointed as the project director of Physics in Zhiyuan College, SJTU in April 2012, Zheng Hang has personally engaged in the training of top-notch innovative talents, and has been constantly exploring and improving the training mode for the development of elite students in physics.
