Xerography, Modern X-ray Medical Imaging and Substance of Medical Imaging Informatics

"Medical imaging" is, horizontally speaking, governed by "medical imaging informatics", and vertically speaking, reflected by each specific development stages. The speaker intends to impart to the audience a correct concept of the medical imaging informatics and a general knowledge about the development of medical imaging. By listing the development timing of medical imaging, the speaker summarizes the development of the X-ray medical imaging into three stages. He points out that although the third stage is of the fastest growing, and the previous two stages evolve slowly with mediocre contributions, facts show that the ideas of many new X-ray imaging models in modern times were virtually conceived and took shape in the first and second stages. New models rely heavily on the flat-panel detector which is the reflection of the idea of xerography. The report will address tomosynthesis and multi-source computed tomography (CT), etc. To some extent, this report is a foreshadowing of the "2011SJTU Biomedical Engineering Forum" which is to be held on April 15-16.

Speaker biography:

Professor Zhuang is the author of the books entitled 'CT: Principle and Algorithms' and 'Applications of Computer in Biomedicine'. He has won several awards, including a Second Prize and a Third Prize of Shanghai Municipal Science & Technological Advancement Award, a First Prize of Excellent Textbook Award from the Ministry of Electronics of China, a Second Prize of Excellent Textbook Award from the Ministry of Education of China, and a National Outstanding Course Award of China.
