Xi Lifeng, vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), director of Institute of Combustion Gas Turbine, deputy director of Chinese Academy of Quality Control and Research.

Xi earned his BS (1989), MS (1992) and PhD (1995) from University of Science and Technology of China, Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University respectively. He joined SJTU in 1995 and became the Associate Dean and then Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering thereafter. Xi concurrently acts as vice chairman of the National Steering Committee for Mechanical Programs administered by the Ministry of Education; he is also a founding fellow of the International Society of Engineering Asset Management, a managing director of the Chinese Quality Society, associate editor-in-chief of Industrial and Engineering Management.

Xi’s research interest includes planning and design of production systems, quality and reliability engineering. Xi has been the principal investigator of a number of national priority projects sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 863 Projects sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and projects commissioned by aerospace and automotive industries. So far Xi has published more than 100 research papers and advised more than 60 graduate students. Two of the courses Xi lectures on, Quality Management and Quality Control & Management, are on the Shanghai-Premium-University-Courses list. The honors and awards Xi has received over the years include Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, First Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, Second Prize of National Teaching Excellence Award, Top Prize of Shanghai Teaching Excellence Award, to name but a few.

Xi’s job responsibilities include promoting National Double First-class Initiative and overseeing matters financial and confidential, tendering & bidding, IT infrastructure building, and translational medicine program. He also assists the president in management of research activities.
