Personal Motto—Growing Gains

When I was a child, there was a popular American sitcom Growing Pains, which depicts various pains that children suffer from during their growing process. For me, I regard my growing process as a gaining process. ‘Growing Gains’, therefore, is what I take as my motto.
From undergraduate years to graduate years, I spend seven years with SJTU. These seven years has witnessed my most meaningful and impressive experiences and contains most growing gains in my life.
During my undergraduate years, as one of the students experiencing the very first enrollment of German Department of SJTU, I worked really hard. As expected, every year I managed to win scholarship. In 2008 and 2009, I won Shanghai Government Scholarship twice. Apart from study, I participated in lots of extracurricular activities and also had many gains.
Then, I got direct access to Graduate School and studied German linguistics and applied linguistics. During the three years, in addition to academic achievements such as National scholarship, I became more and more mature.
In retrospect, I gained a lot during my growing process in the past seven years. And without SJTU, those gains could not be achieved. Thank you SJTU. It is you who provided me with so many opportunities to improve myself and to help others. It is you who brought me my teachers and classmates helping me and accompanying me during my gaining process.
SJTU, ich liebe dich (I love you)!

She is a beautiful girl with sunny smile. She has positive attitude and thus she regards everything in her growing process as growing gains. And actually, she does have a lot of marvelous gains during her seven-year study at SJTU.

In undergraduate years, she made many achievements. In the second semester of her freshman year, together with her classmates, she founded German Association, which provided those who love German with a good communication platform; in her sophomore year, due to her strong abilities and good personality, she was elected as President of Student Union of School of Foreign Languages; in senior year, she, together with her partner, won the third prize in the first National German Debate Competition. To crown it all, she was one of the SJTU representatives participating in the interaction with US President Barack Obama in Shanghai. A picture was taken by Xinhua News Agency when President Obama and she were shaking hands.

Based on those gains in her undergraduate years, she kept moving forward. Just as she said, she became more and more mature. And the credit should be given to the activities she took part in during her graduate years. She worked as head of an Expo Volunteer Station and worked for the Oversees Affairs Office, SJTU. She, together with her team, helped dozens of SJTU students successfully go to oversees universities as exchange students. As a result, the team was awarded “President Award” in 2011. Her sunny smile witnesses every growing gain in her seven years at SJTU. Her positive attitude will definitely help her to achieve more and more gains.
