Wen Xueyou got his undergraduate education from 1957 to 1962 in Department of Marine Power at SJTU, majoring in turbomachinery. In 2005, he was elected as member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

As the reputable expert in vessel gas turbine, Wen Xueyou devoted himself totally into the frontline of research and the transfer of design into application, contributing to the revolutionary development of vessel gas turbine technologies in China. He also made every effort to promote the innovative technologies among the research and production for civil use.

Wen Xueyou was the chief technical principal in charge of China's first high-power vessel gas turbine developed from the aviation turbojet engine, and the first vessel gas turbine developed from the aviation turboprop engine. He was the chief technical director of China's first STIG device and the first closed helium gas turbine unit. Currently, he is the Chief Designer of China's new generation of high-power vessel gas turbines.

Wen Xueyou received 18 national awards in total including the National Science Conference Award, the National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, the COSTIND's Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, the Military Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, the CSIC Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, and etc. He was also elected as the Model Worker of Harbin, the Top-Class Model Worker, the Model Worker of Heilongjiang Province, and granted the National "May 1" Labor Medal.
