Electrical Insulation & Thermal Aging

Brief Introduction

Shanghai Key Lab of Electrical Insulation & Thermal Aging is jointly established by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group and Shanghai Institution of Electrical Machinery Technology.

There are many innovative achievements made by the key lab with respect to the development of novel electrical insulation material and synthesis of novel flame retardant, such as environment-friendly epoxy vacuum pressure impregnating insulating resin, environment-friendly non-halogen low-smoke polymer materials, cable for nuclear power plant and sheathing material of electric wire & cable, synthesis of novel silicon-containing flame retardant, water tree resistant material of cable insulation with long service life, semiconducting screening material for HV cable, water-tight submarine cable material, etc.

There are an aging test system consisting of a thermal aging oven with an inside dimension 2.5×2.5×12m (width × height × depth) and a power frequency withstand voltage tester with rated capacity of 200kVA and rated voltage of 100kV where electrical and thermal aging test can be performed simultaneously for large-size power apparatus, a HV laboratory where non-partial discharge power frequency withstand voltage test with rated voltage of 800kV and surging withstand test with rated voltage of 3000kV can be performed in the key lab. There are also many achievements in engineering applications with respect to on-line monitoring & diagnosis and aging evaluation of power apparatus.

The chairman of the board of the Key Lab is Prof. Wang Zongguang, the Pre-secretary of Communist Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The Director of its Academic Committee is Prof. Lei Qingquan, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. The head of the Key lab is Prof. Jiang Pingkai, who is also the head of Centre of Dielectric Materials and Electrical Insulation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The key lab is always open for the power apparatus companies all over the country.
