【SJTU Wisdom】SJTU Reveals Glycosylation Function Mechanism during Neural Development Process

Recently, the project group of Zhang Yan who comes from Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine made significant progress in the study of Glycosylation function mechanism during the neural development process. They published an article named "PolypeptideN-Acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 13 Contributes to Neurogenesis via Stabilizing the Mucin-typeO-Glycoprotein Podoplanin" on Journal of Biological Chemistry, a famous journal of American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. It revealed the molecular regulation mechanism of protein O glycosyltransferase during neural differentiation from the perspective of the joint modification of glycosyltransferase, glycoprotein and chains of glucose.

Focusing on the discovery and detection of protein glycosylation regulation and biomarkers of disease glucose chains, Zhang Yan's project group conducted systematic research and established a mature research platform of protein glycosylation, which are featured with unique subject characteristics. The research is supported by National Key Basic Research Program (2012CB822103) and National Natural Science Foundation of China(30970642,31170771,31370809,31570796),etc. The first author of the paper is doctoral student Xu Yingjiao.
