Recently, Yu Lule, Sheng Zhengming from Department of Physics and Astronomy of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and their partner raised a new method to modulate the spectrum and space-time characteristics of intense laser light, by using ultra-fast plasma optical modulators for intense lasers. Related research outcomes have been published on Nature Communications [Lu-Le Yuet al., Nat. Commun.7, 11893 (2016)], with the name of "Plasma optical modulators for intense lasers".
Given that the effects of the interactions of intense lasers and matters are very dependent on the space-time characteristics, they can be modulated to a large extent through the modulation of the space-time characteristics of intense laser pulses, which is of vital importance to many applications.
