SJTU Academicians Attend World Laureates Forum

On the morning of Oct.29th, the World Laureates Forum (WLF) hosted by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, organized by the Lingang administration committee, the State-owned Lingang Group, Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, World Laureates Association and Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held by the Dishui Lake, Lingang of Shanghai. 37 top scientists across the world including 26 Nobel laureates, more than 30 academicians with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and young leading scientists from home and abroad gathered together along the riverside of Dishui Lake, Lingang of Shanghai. They conducted in-depth exchange on the latest research, frontier technology prediction and plan, scientific results transformation, and talents training.

Ying Yong, Mayor of Shanghai, said at the opening ceremony of the forum that the construction of science and technology innovation center in Shanghai will give basic support for scientific and technological innovation, build more scientific equipment for photonic science, life science and marine science, and provide more improved protection of intellectual property rights. Roger David Kornberg, 2006 Nobel laureate chemistry, also expressed his wish to strengthen the exchange among scientists and to bring more basic research results into people's life.

Lin Zhongqin, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, noted that SJTU has set internationalization, especially international academic cooperation, as an important development strategy. In the meantime, apart from a large number of employed top-notch professors and scholars, SJTU also attracts Nobel laureates to give lectures to its students every year. In November, 2016, Tsung-Dao Lee Research Institution was established. In April, 2018, SJTU Zhangjiang Science Park started construction. SJTU has signed cooperation agreements with over 150 well-known universities.

The World Laureates Forum (WLF) is the first large-scale science and technology banquet with such large number of Nobel laureates in China. Themed with "Science and Technology for the Common Destiny of Mankind", the forum centered around four main topics including photonic science and industry, life science and industry, innovative drug development and transitional medicine, and brain science and artificial intelligence.

Academicians from SJTU hosted the forum and participated in the discussion. They include Zhang Jie, Director of Academic Committee and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lin Zhongqin, President of SJTU, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chen Saijuan, Chairman of Municipal Science Association, SJTU affiliated Ruijin Hospital, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Ding Quiling, Executive Vice President of SJTU, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mao Junfa, Vice President of SJTU, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yan Deyue, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, SJTU, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tu Yongqiang, Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ningguang, Dean of the Renji Hospital, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Tan Weihong, Dean of Institute of Molecular Medicine, Ruijin Hospital and Academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Exchanging ideas at the forum with top scientists across the world, they represented the charisma of Shanghai while displaying their wisdom.
