Recently, Academician Deng Zixin from School of Life Science and Biotechnology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University is elected the new Chairman of International Committee for Genetics of Industrial Microorganisms, who is the first president from our country.
International Committee for Genetics of Industrial Microorganisms (GIM-IC) consists of 28 world-renowned experts from 17 countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada, etc. It was not until the beginning of this century that the Committee had a Chinese member. As a major activity representing the organization's international influence and cohesion, the international symposium held every four (then revised to three) years by the committee since 1970 has now become one of the most influential academic activities in the international field of microbiology. The term of office of every president is six years.
