The paper "Pivotal role of dermal IL-17-producing γδ T cells in skin inflammation" published in Immunity (Oct. 2011) by Ruijin Hospital affiliated to SJTU School of Medicine is commended in a review article of the "Research Highlight" in the latest December issue of Nature Reviews Immunology (Impact Factor: 35.196). Maria Papatriantafyllou, associate editor of the journal, wrote the article and highlighted in bold that "the findings of these studies reveal novel targets for the treatment of inflammatory skin disorders".
It is the first time for Chinese scholars to get their immunology findings listed as "findings of the year" in Nature Reviews Immunology. Prof. Zheng Jie, the corresponding author of the paper and Director of Department of Dermatology, points out that the three findings have laid theoretical basis for inflammatory skin disorders and provided rationale for skin disorders prevention and treatment by protecting skin barrier, preventing infection and tissue damage.
