Mo Liangjin pointed out that SJTU will launch a series of projects globally. The ultimate objective of the series of activities is to help the younger generation recognize and deal with the challenging social and environmental problems faced by human beings, such as pollution, education, medical care, health, poverty, climate change, and so on. As the icebreaker, "Dali's Ecological & Economic Development Creative Challenge Camp" of this year is the first activity of the SJTU's Global Engagement Program. Mr. Mo hopes that the camp members can provide practical suggestions for the development of ecological agriculture and economy at Dali through different on-site activities, like lecture, literature review, field investigation, etc. "All men share a common responsibility for the fate of their country", he said, especially the younger generation who are the most active with the vision to change the world and likely to assume responsibilities, and therefore should actively participate in various activities to make a contribution to the development of our world.  Mr. Mo mentioned that Erhai Lake is facing serious environmental problems while the economic development of Dali keeps bringing new pressure. He encouraged all the campers to quickly understand agriculture development in the Dali's highland agriculture and environmental protection activities at Erhai Lake, therefore enabling them to serve the society and to fulfill their responsibilities.

Mr. Qiuhao Wen from UM-SJTU-UM Joint Institute gave a speech as the representative of SJTU students, "as a student of the renowned university, we should always be grateful, love our university and motherland, and use what one's been learned to help the development of the country, let the alma mater be proud of us." Ms. Yuanqi Zhang from The University of Hong Kong expressed her expectation that all participants could experience the local culture and customs and also contribute to the local environmental protection and agriculture development. "The program is a two-way interaction, so we should not just be a passive recipient but also need to integrate knowledge learned in the project into our own view", she said. She hoped that everyone has an open mind and take this great opportunity to improve themselves. Mr. Zixuan Huang, a student from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, presented a precious gift to the organizers of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. "Visiting Shanghai and challenging oneself, discovering Yunnan gathering with wisdom and effort", Zixuan's short and refined slogan reflects his initial vision of participating in this camp. The wonderful moment witnessed by all camp members.
