NUS Board of Trustees Visited SJTU

President Tan Chorh Chuan of National University of Singapore (NUS) and representatives of NUS Board of Trustees paid a visit to SJTU on September 7. SJTU Chairperson Ma Dexiu and President Zhang Jie met with them separately.

During the meeting, Ma Dexiu briefed the visiting delegation on the national background for SJTU's rapid development. "Goal, reform and strategy" are the key concepts for the building process of SJTU into a world-class university, and highlighted are the strategies of "strengthening university with talents", "elite education" and "internationalization", etc.

There is a close cooperation partnership between SJTU and NUS. Since 2006, the two sides have conducted the wide-ranging international S&T cooperation, and have jointly applied for the "CREATE" project. SJTU President Zhang Jie expressed his hope to further strengthen cooperation with NUS in S&T, education and other fields, so they can learn from each other for common advancement.

The two sides also exchanged ideas on discipline construction, talent recruitment and education reform. After the talk, the delegation visited the demonstration hall of SJTU achievements, the deepwater offshore basin and the sand table campus model of School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering.
