Global Cities Forum 2017 Held in SJTU

On October 29th and 30th, as one of the theme activities of "World City Day", the Global City Forum 2017 was held on Xuhui campus, SJTU. The guests are Joan Clos, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, Bekele Debele, the Business Director of Country of Sustainable Development, China Bureau, World Bank, Hou Yongzhi, the Head of Development Strategy and Regional Economic Research Department of the Development Research Centre of the State Council, Yan Jun, the Deputy Director of the Development Research Center of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and Jiang Xiaolong, the Deputy Director of Shanghai Housing and Urban Construction Management Committee, etc. Jiang Sixian, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee, Secretary of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Party Committee and Director of the China Academy of Urban Governance, attended the closing ceremony of the forum and delivered a speech. Gu Feng, Deputy Secretary of the SJTU Party Committee, gave a talk on the opening ceremony and presided over the keynote speeches. Those who participated the forum are experts and scholars, media representatives, college teachers and students of famous universities and academic research institutes from nearly 20 countries and regions. The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Chen Gaohong, Vice president of China Urban Governance Research Institute of SJTU, the former director of Standing Committee of Xuhui District people's Congress.

The theme of this forum is "Global Cities, Precise Governance", which is to focus on the intelligent cities and the use of large data, urban environmental management, urban emergency management, urban agglomeration management, urban governance and social participation, the development and management of urban agglomerations and other issues related to the refinement of urban governance.

Joan Clos delivered a speech and shared with experts and scholars the relevant problems of global city governance.

Bekele Debele pointed out in his speech that mankind has entered the urban era, and global urbanization has played a very important role in promoting economic prosperity and improving people's way of life.

Yan Jun said in speech that the forum discussed the major problems roundly and with multiple angles, which is practically meaningful.

Jiang Xiaolong reported the progress of 2017 revision of the Shanghai Handbook.

Global Think Tank Alliance of Urban Governance was jointly founded by the think tank research institutions from seven global cities: New York, Paris, Singapore, Seoul, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.

Wu Jiannan, Executive Vice President of China Urban Governance Research Institute, Shanghai Jiaotong University, read the " Shanghai Declaration of Global Urban Governance by Think Tank Union", and seven representatives from different global city think tank research institutions co-start ceremony for the establishment of the Union.

On the morning of October 30, the closing ceremony of the forum was held on Xuhui campus, Wu Jiannan presided over the closing ceremony. At the end of the forum, Jiang Sixian made a closing speech.
