Dr. John Hopcroft Engaged as Honorary Professor of SJTU

Dr. John Hopcroft, Turing Award Winner and professor of Engineering and Applied Mathematics in Computer Science at Cornell University was recently engaged as Honorary Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The award ceremony was held in School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering (SEIEE) on January 5. President Zhang Jie presented John Hopcroft the letter of appointment and the university badge. After the ceremony, Prof. Hopcroft delivered a speech on "Time of Change is a time of opportunity".

On December 26, 2011, Prof. Hopcroft opened his first class of "Mathematics in Computer Science" to Zhiyuan College (SJTU College) students. The class will last to January 13.

The engagement of Prof. John Hopcroft as SJTU Honorary Professor is one important measure taken by SJTU Department of Computer Science & Engineering to build a world-class computer sciences subject, which will definitely exert positive effects on its international status, subject construction and international cooperation & exchanges.
