From July 4 to 7, 2011, Chairperson of SJTU Council Ma Dexiu led a delegation to visit France. The delegation paid a visit to French Ministry of Labor, Social Relations, Family and Solidarity, Ministry of National Education, Youth, Higher Education and Research, Paris Institute of Political Studies, Paris Institute of Technology, and Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, etc. and attended the opening conference of SJTU Alumni Association of France. Relevant officials of SJTU accompanied the visiting.
Leaders from French Ministry of Labour, Employment and Health and personnel of Centre de Formation Medicale Sino-francais received the delegation and the two sides conducted in-depth discussion on life sciences and reached consensus. Minister of National Education, Youth, Higher Education and Research, heads of Department of Asian and African Affairs and Department of International Exchange met with the delegation. Ma Dexiu reviewed the 10 years of fruitful cooperation between SJTU and French educational institutions, and expressed gratitude for their support. Both sides hoped to conduct substantive cooperation in building a world-class university.
Leaders from Paris Institute of Political Studies, Asia Center, China-ASEAN International Affairs and Health Research Center received the delegation. Both sides co-signed the cooperation agreement on talent training, scientific cooperation and joint training program for high-level talent. Leaders from Paris Institute of Technology, Ecole Polytechnique, Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers, Ecole nationale supérieure de techniques avancées, and Eacutecole nationale supérieure des mines de Paris met with the delegation. The innovative cooperation model would be applied to deepen the cooperation based on the existing programs, as agreed by both sides. The delegation led by Ma Dexiu also met with leaders and teachers from Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, European Academy of Sciences, Académie des Sciences, and Université de Reims to discuss on student exchange, dual degree programs and joint PhD program, consensus reached to push the programs ahead as soon as possible.
During the visit in France, the delegation also attended the opening ceremony of SJTU Alumni Association of France. Ma Dexiu unveiled and addressed the association. She hoped it would become a helpful platform, a communication bridge and close ties between alumni and the alma mater; it would establish friendly relationships with local community to assist SJTU alumni's development in France and develop resources for SJTU development. Carrying forward SJTU tradition and spirit, SJTU alumni are also expected to achieve self-worth while making contributions to the society with broad mind and ambitious vision.
During the visit, the delegation also called on SJTU students who were studying at Ecole Polytechnique.
