From November 5 to November 6, 2021, the “AI Medical and Digital Health Communication” International Graduate Academic Forum was held at SJTU in both online and offline venues by the School of Media and Communication of SJTU. Focusing on health communication in the digital age, the forum gathered more than 200 guests, including scholars, industrial experts and university postgraduates from home and abroad, to discuss the transformation and current trend of modern medical and health communication in the era of big data and artificial intelligence.

This forum provides an opportunity to share latest progress and research findings with worldwide participants that are concerned about AI medical services, health communication and the spread of epidemic. In doing so, it not only helps promote the integration and exchange between the academy and the business sectors, but also delivers the latest theoretical insights and practical cases for digital technology to better empower healthcare.

In the post-epidemic era, the uncertainty of information environment adds to the importance of health communication. First, in the industry the new ideas and means bred by digital technology have been accelerating health communication. Facing this trend, it is justifiable to include the new media technologies into the academic discussions on healthy communication. Meanwhile, the rapid development of digital technology, 5G, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and other digital technologies have led to an upsurging amount of new business formats in the medical and health field, which are expected to help the people better respond to various public health risks. In the context of regular epidemic prevention and control, it is a crucial part of the national strategy to integrate health communication into building a healthy China. To thoroughly implement The Outline for the “Healthy China 2030” Initiative, we also need to continuously improve public awareness and ability of epidemic prevention and control, promote healthy lifestyle, and maintain social stability and national public health safety.
