November 28th, Ji Xiangdong, professor of Department of Physics and Astronomy at SJTU, led the students of Chengdu No. 7 High School to the exploration of spectral particle in the universe by virtue of a vivid scientific report. In the meantime, the report was broadcast live to more than ten thousand students and teachers of over 160 high schools in Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou, Gansu, and Tibet. Besides, SJTU Vice President Xu Xuemin attended the lecture and presented some books published by SJTU Press to Chengdu No. 7 High School on behalf of the university.
Professor Ji alternately added intriguing experiments in the lecture, leaving the students appreciating the charm of physics in daily life. He also mentioned that apart from physics, SJTU were noted for many other internationally-leading disciplines and achievements that drew the attention of the world, which was the due vision of top-ranking universities and the aspiration of Chinese Scientists. For instance, in medical domain, a study conducted by SJTU on the toxic mechanism of melamine was credited as one of the top ten scientific progress in the year 2013, which was the second time that SJTU was awarded for its achievement. Besides, in the field of clean nuclear power, SJTU had made considerable breakthroughs in the development of the world's leading Generation IV reactors, and it had also made tremendous progress in the research in the genes of rice, which was closely concerned with the global food production and security. The professors of SJTU had been devoting unremitting efforts to the areas of common interest and concern, aspiring to contributing to the development of mankind.
Finally, Ji Xiangdong hoped that this lecture could narrow the gap between scientific frontiers and the students and attract the interested ones to join in the world's top experiment.
