2018 QS World University Rankings Issued: SJTU Ranks 62nd Globally

Quacquarelli Symonds, a British company specializing in higher education information and educational institutions, has issued 2018 QS World University Rankings after evaluating 965 universities worldwide.  SJTU ranks 62nd.

Among 39 ranked universities from Mainland China, Tsinghua University ranks 25th globally. SJTU (62nd) has surpassed Osaka University (63rd) and Technical University of Munich (64th). There are two more universities from China than before in the top 100 which are Zhejiang University, ranking 87th globally which is 23 places higher, and University of Science and Technology of China, ranking 97th globally which is 7 places higher. Among 39 ranked universities from Mainland China, there are 6 newly ranked universities, including Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, China Agricultural University, Hunan University, Central South University, and Chongqing University. Following the U.S. who has 31 ranked universities and the British, 16, China has the most top 100 universities in Asia. By comparison, Japan has 5 as well as Korea, Singapore has 2.

The QS World University Rankings, first issued in 2004, is the second long-standing world university ranking following Academic Ranking of World Universities, first issued in 2003. As a world authoritative ranking, the QS World University Rankings is issued based on the evaluation of 965 universities worldwide, on peer review of 75,000 academics and 40,455 employers in more than 100 countries over the past 5 years and analysis of 12.31 million academic journals and 66.30 million essays in the biggest database Scopus/Elsevier over the past 6 years.
