Energy and Power Engineering
Professor Wong, born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province in May 1932, is an expert of thermal mechanism. In 1952, he graduated from Department of Naval Architecture, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. And in 1962, he received his Associate Doctor's Degree of Science and Technology from Department of Naval Architecture in Leningrad of the former Soviet Union. Now he is professor at School of Dynamics and Energy Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He was once president of SJTU. In October, 1995, Professor Weng was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
He has initiated and organized 10 important national research programs and developed several advanced techniques in combustion gas turbine; accordingly, he has got awards from the national government, ministries and commissions for nine times. He has incorporated in thermal engine the information science and computer technology, and set up a laboratory for the study of digital real-time simulation and computer emulation. He is the first one to advocate and supervise the key program of national level-emulation monitoring of the performance of combustion gas turbines in big power stations, develop successfully the first ceramic adiabatic turbo-charged diesel and design the first ceramic turbortors. He has organized and founded the first program authorized to award doctoral degree in thermal turbine. He has contributed a lot to the establishment of aerodynamics lab, emulation lab, and postdoctoral exchange station and to the cultivation of well-qualified teachers specializing in thermal turbine.
