Biography

Professor Chen was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province in July 23, 1936. She graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1962. She was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1996. Presently, she is head of the Institute of Biology and Medical Instrumentation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She has been committed to advanced education and scientific research for more than 40 years. In her early days, she carried out many researches in the fields of high voltage lightning protection, high voltage insulating design and calculation of high voltage fields, with abundant achievements. Ever since the early 1980s, by integrating medicine and technology, she pioneered in applying new science and technology to harmless medical treatment. She has made an array of substantial achievements and in addition made successful application of them. The Extracorporeal Micronisers, developed by Professor Chen, has produced conspicuous social impact and economic profit. With its application in China and other countries, Professor Chen was awarded prizes of Achievement in Science and Technology by the Ministry of Education in China. She also invented other advanced high-tech medical instruments, such as (Benign Prostate Rf Heating Instrument), Dynamics of Urine Examining Instrument. She has been awarded many science advancement prizes of nation, province and ministry levels. In particular, her “Study and application of lightening protection distribution transformer” was awarded the 3rd prize of the National Scientific and Technological Achievement in 1985; “Use liquid electricity shock wave to smash gravel outside the body” had been awarded the 1st prize of the National Scientific and Technological Achievement in 1987; The promotion of the gravel smasher was awarded the 2nd prize of the Achievement of the State Education committee in 1993; “Study of the shortest pure distance of the indoor 200 KV distributing equipment” was awarded the 3rd prize of the Scientific and Technological Achievement of the State Education Committee of the "; “the heating treating machine of the benign prostate hyperplasia” was awarded the 2nd prize of the Scientific and Technological Achievement given by Shanghai municipality; and “SCL oxygen linked casting transformer” was awarded the 2nd prize of the Production, Learning and Research Project of Shanghai municipality in 1996. In recent years, she has been devoted to research in the key technique of tumor treatment facility and leading many research projects on the development of various kinds of new instruments for curing tumors, of which many large scale cancer curing instruments are right under clinic research, such as “cancer cure system of multi-position supersonic radiation”, “Cancer cure system of multipolar radio frequency”, “cancer cure system of integrating heating/ chemistry/radiation”, etc. Now, she is heading a complete new research on “plane array assisted focusing and supersonic cure system” with the aim of conquering the higher peak of supersonic curing field.
